Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 17 minutes (maybe a couple minutes less depending on the oven)


  • 2.5 cups flower
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 8 oz. butter
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or mix of both!)
  • 1 cup walnuts (optional)


  1. Mix dry ingredients together
  2. Slightly soften butter in the microwave
  3. Mix wet ingredients together with the butter
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients
  5. (optional) Mix in nuts
  6. Chill cookie dough in the refrigerator for about 1 hour
  7. Preheat oven to 325°F
  8. Scoop dough onto lined baking sheet approximately 2 inches apart
  9. Bake for 17 minutes or until edges are golden brown
  10. (optional) for crispier cookies bake extra 1-2 minutes
  11. Remove and place on paper towel or rack to cool
  12. If you don’t want to bake all your dough at once, then just freeze unused cookie dough and thaw when you’re ready to bake!
